Production Artist Jobs
A Production Artist in the printing industry plays a critical role in refining and finalizing designs before they go to print. They work closely with graphic designers and illustrators, ensuring that all elements of the design, like layouts, graphics, and text, are correctly formatted and ready for print production. This can involve adjusting sizes, creating templates, ensuring design consistency, or fixing any errors in the artwork. They also collaborate with print vendors to verify specifications and confirm that print jobs are completed accurately and on time.
To be successful in this role, a Production Artist needs a strong understanding of design and typography principles, as well as expert proficiency in design software like Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign). Knowledge of prepress processes is crucial, as is an eye for detail and excellent problem-solving abilities. Some positions may require a certification in graphic design or a related field. In terms of career progression, a Production Artist might previously have worked as a Graphic Designer, a Prepress Technician, or a Junior Art Director.
