Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Illini Union Document Services, performs duties involved with the preparation, estimation, scheduling, production and billing of printing jobs. Focuses on pre-press, wide format and customer service.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the production and finishing of wide format work on a variety of equipment.
  • Assists with set-up of jobs for all production methods of printing and mailing, including creating job tickets and checking files. Check and verify files and proofs to ensure correct sizing, page count, resolution, color and overall quality, etc., and makes necessary adjustments; notifies supervisor of problems with files or proofs.
  • Works with other Document Services staff and customers to determine the most efficient and cost-effective method for producing printing orders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, corresponds with customers regarding production options and inquiries, represents Illini Union Document Services at departmental and campus events.
  • Maintains files for production orders.

 

Additional Physical Demands

Most work will be accomplished in a typical printing production environment, including the operation of machinery associated with the printing trade. A great deal of moving within and between the office area, production areas, and storage areas is required for at least 50% of the workday.
Frequently moves and/or positions boxes and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. within and between the office area, production areas, and storage areas.
Position involves working under pressure in stressful situations and managing numerous projects simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of work experience in a print shop.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with graphics printing and finishing processes and University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals including academic customers, union crafts people, and commercial vendors.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0299 - Printing Production Assistant position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/16/2025.

  • Salary Information: The budgeted salary range for this position is $19.24/hour - $20.50/hour.
  • Fully Onsite Position: Work for this position will be onsite at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility Policy.
  • Sponsorship: Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position now or in the future.  
  • Post Employment Requirement: Should you be offered this position, possession of a valid State of Illinois driver’s license at the time of hire must be maintained throughout the duration of the employment period in the position.
