Graphic Designer

Reports to: Assistant Vice President for Marketing

Job Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

As a member of the Universitys marketing team, the graphic designer will create positive impressions of the University through graphic design and development for institutional communications such as printed enrollment marketing collateral, postcards, one-sheets, posters, HC.edu web pages, emails, social media posts and other formats as needed. The graphic designer will utilize both a strong graphic design sensibility and the ability to create effective and pleasing pages and layouts in both print and digital platforms.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead design to maximize the impact of high visibility Houston Christian University marketing and communication assets and initiatives

  • Improve universitys identity through the employment of best practices in branding, the development of marketing and communications products that adhere to the Universitys brand standards guide and by serving as one of the Universitys experts on branding and style

  • Design and develop printed communications products including brochures, institutional magazine pages, posters, postcards and one-sheets

  • Design pages and sites on the HC.edu website, including the development and presentation of wireframes, prototypes and iterative and final designs to stakeholders

  • Lead development of visuals including photographs and bespoke graphics for web pages, broadcast emails and social media posts

  • Lead design and development of HCU-branded templates for mass emails on the Slate and Anthology Encompass platforms

  • Design, layout, produce and quality test broadcast emails from finished copy provided by the editors or the team leaders

  • Provide guidance, resources and best practices in branding and graphic design to University stakeholders involved in marketing and communication

  • Crop, enhance, optimize and handle final placement of photography for print, web, email, and social media

  • Update existing and develop new WordPress pages and posts in collaboration with content generators and editors and under the supervision of the assistant vice president for marketing

  • Provide training to content generators and editors in the use of WordPress Multisite for content updates and new page additions

  • May occasionally train others in use of Slate and Encompass for email marketing, event RSVP pages and setup of web-based forms

  • Ensure every communication is copyedited or proofed by an editor, the web/UI designer and/or the assistant vice president for marketing

  • May assist with compilation and distribution of routine analytical reports for digital marketing (Google Analytics, virtual tour platform, Slate platform, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in graphic and/or interactive design, multimedia, journalism, marketing, communications or related field required

  • Two years experience with Adobe Creative Suite for digital design (especially Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) demonstrated in an online portfolio

  • Advanced to expert level with Adobe Photoshop

  • Experience with Adobe XD, InVision, Figma or comparable user interface development tool preferred

  • Effective verbal and written and communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience with responsive design for web and email preferred

  • Team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of management and constituents.
