Job Title: Prepress Production Artist Company: Location: Providence, RI Description: Position Overview The Prepress Production Artist is primarily responsible for translating design files into complete and well organized files that are ready for prepress/printing. Experience in preflighting files for flexographic printing processes is a must. This person must be highly organized and able to work efficiently on multiple projects to meet tight deadlines. Essential Job Function ? Review all jobs & interpret job information as directed by Graphics Manager or CSR. ? Analyze and evaluate projects to determine most efficient execution. ? Troubleshoot problems and creatively resolve production challenges while maintaining design intent. ? Build files per job specifications such as minimum line weights, minimum dot, number of colors, etc. ? Produce job ticket with detailed instructions for separator(s) to produce job. ? Organize digital files in a consistent manner locally & on the server. ? Check, verify and sight proof completed work for errors to ensure compliance with job specifications and client standards. ? Assist with manual production when required. ? Compose, retouch and recreate vector and raster artwork as needed. ? Understanding of color matching proofs to PMS standard book. ? General knowledge of digital flexo plate TIFF file formats. Basic Job Qualifications: Skills and Abilities ? Skilled in image formats, file compression, and optimization techniques. ? Quick grasp of project parameters, line extensions and templates. ? Skilled problem solver, detail oriented, highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects with supervision. ? Maintain current knowledge of current software, hardware and upgrades. ? Must be accurate to specifications, true to deadlines, and resilient to ever-changing client demands. ? Flexographic printing/packaging knowledge a must. Education / Experience / Training ? 3 to 5 years experience in production art or related field Bachelors Degree in Graphics Production or related field preferred ? Proficiency in current software application as required to build print-ready files for prepress: CS4 Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop & Acrobat Professional in a Mac OS environment is mandatory. Understanding of File Maker Pro a plus. ? Knowledge of basic layout principles, aesthetic design concepts, typography, color theory, die schematics and printer specs. ? Knowledge of standard printing procedures, preflight practices and flexographic printing standards.
